Kazu’s Snack Bar Adventures: “Make a Snack Bar Your Regular Spot”

Hello, I’m Kazu, your guide for the Yokocho tours! I always hit up a snack bar on the weekends. Tonight, let’s raise a glass, even if you can’t go out! 🍺

Today, I want to talk about how to make a snack bar your regular hangout.

Have You Visited the Same Snack Bar Before?

What brings you to a snack bar?

Do you ever want to go back to a bar after your first visit?

And do you actually go back?

How Kazu Made a Snack Bar His Regular Spot

In a previous article, I talked about what to do when visiting a snack bar for the first time. If you find a snack bar where you feel comfortable, wouldn’t you want to go back? When I find such a place, I always make sure to say goodbye to the mama (owner) and regulars when leaving.

“I had a great time. I’ll be back!”

It’s important to actually follow through on this promise and return. I recommend visiting again within a week. Doing so makes the mama and regulars remember you, and you’ll quickly be welcomed as a regular.

Once You Have a Regular Snack Bar

Try getting a bottle of your favorite drink there. Keeping a bottle might seem intimidating, but it’s actually a cost-effective way to enjoy your drinks. You only pay for mixers and ice the second time around, making it cheaper.

Chat with the Regulars

On your second visit, the mama and regulars will likely introduce you to others. Make a light introduction and join in on the conversations. Don’t forget to offer the mama a drink as a gesture of goodwill!

Sing Karaoke

If you sang during your first visit, the mama and regulars might remember. Sing along with them to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Bring a Gift

Bringing a small gift, like local snacks, can be a great conversation starter. It can also create a bond with the mama and regulars, who might offer you something in return.

Want to Visit a Snack Bar?

To find a regular snack bar, you first have to visit one! If you’re nervous, it’s a good idea to go with someone. If you don’t have anyone to go with, why not join me?
