Hello! I’m Kazu, your Snack Alley Tour guide 🍺
Cheers to another fun night! 🍺

Today, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite snack bars from Hida Takayama Onsen.

Kazu’s Snack Bar Diary: Exploring the Origins of Hida Takayama’s Snack Scene
Near Hida Takayama Onsen, especially around Ichibangai Street, you’ll find plenty of unique snack bars.

With so many options, I couldn’t just stop at one! So, I kept walking, searching for a second spot to try…

Snack “High Tension”—Just My Vibe!

And there it was—the perfect snack bar for my travel mood: “Snack High Tension”!

Curious, I pressed my ear to the door, only to hear a high-energy karaoke rendition of Akina Nakamori’s “Desire.” The excitement inside was palpable.

Eager to join the fun, I stepped in… only to find the place fully packed!

While I couldn’t stay, I loved the vibrant atmosphere, with chic bar-like decor, a welcoming master, and lively patrons.

There’s even a special treat if you score double numbers on the karaoke screen.

Definitely a spot to revisit on my next trip!

An Unexpected Find: A Global Vibe in a Local Alley

Continuing my search, I stumbled upon a bustling alley filled with international travelers.

This spot was like a mini festival, with small food stalls and izakaya-style eateries buzzing with energy.

It’s the perfect place to mingle—even if you’re traveling solo, you’ll quickly find yourself making new friends. Highly recommended for its lively charm!

The Retro Charm of “Snack Bar Haru”

As I wandered further, I found another gem: Snack Bar Haru.

The exterior had an inviting, nostalgic vibe, so I couldn’t resist stepping inside.

The moment I entered, I was greeted by a retro interior and a warm, cozy atmosphere. Behind the counter stood a lovely couple—the master, Haru, and his wife.

Turns out, Snack Bar Haru is the oldest snack bar in Hida Takayama, a beloved local fixture for over 50 years. Regulars filled the counter, chatting and laughing.

One even invited me to enjoy some whiskey from their personal bottle—a first for me!

This charming couple’s hospitality has made Haru a second home for locals and visitors alike. If you’re in the area, it’s a must-visit for its history, warmth, and delicious drinks.

Why Snack Bars Are a Must-Experience

Hida Takayama’s snack bars surprised me with their wide variety of drinks—everything from whiskey to premium spirits at reasonable prices. Whether you’re a connoisseur or just curious, these spots are perfect for discovering your new favorite drink.

Snack bars aren’t just about drinks; they’re about connections, stories, and memories. And with so many unique places to explore, it’s like opening a new treasure chest every time you walk through the door.
